Pakistan’s Prime Minister Thanks Turkish President Erdogan for Support Amid Rising Tensions with India

Islamabad (May 8, 2025):
As regional tensions intensify following cross-border strikes between India and Pakistan, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday expressed gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for standing with Pakistan in what he termed a “critical time.”

In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Sharif referred to Erdogan as his “dear brother” and thanked him for Turkey’s show of solidarity and support.

“We will protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs. Pakistan is grateful for Turkish efforts to promote de-escalation and maintain peace in South Asia,” Sharif stated.

During their phone call, Sharif reportedly briefed Erdogan on the “valiant efforts” of the Pakistan Armed Forces in defending the nation against recent Indian military strikes.

Turkey Calls for Calm, Condemns Indian Strikes

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a strong statement on Wednesday, warning that India’s missile strikes into Pakistani territory and Pakistan-administered Kashmir risk escalating into “an all-out war.”

“We condemn such provocative steps as well as attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.

Ankara also echoed Islamabad’s call for a transparent investigation into the April 22 militant attack in India-administered Kashmir, which Delhi blames on Pakistan — an allegation Islamabad has firmly denied.

Background: Growing Regional Instability

The recent exchange of hostilities between India and Pakistan, including missile strikes, civilian casualties, and claims of multiple downed aircraft, has drawn increasing international concern, with calls for restraint from several nations.

Pakistan and Turkey have long shared close diplomatic, military, and cultural ties, and Ankara has often voiced support for Pakistan in regional disputes, especially concerning Kashmir.
