Umar Akmal Reveals Why Sarfaraz Ahmed Is No Longer in the Pakistan Cricket Team
In a recent TV interview, Pakistani cricketer Umar Akmal openly shared the reasons behind former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed’s exclusion from the national cricket team.
📌 Umar Akmal’s Statement
Speaking on a private channel's program, Umar Akmal claimed that Sarfaraz Ahmed lost his place in the team because he was easily influenced by others. Umar suggested that had Sarfaraz maintained his own authority — much like Shahid Afridi and Younis Khan during their captaincies — the situation would have been different.
“If Sarfaraz hadn’t fallen for others' opinions so quickly, he would still be playing in the PSL and representing Pakistan,” said Umar Akmal.
📌 Leadership Comparison
Umar further added that both Shahid Afridi and Younis Khan were strong leaders who commanded respect and led the team firmly, which allowed them to enjoy long tenures as captains.
He expressed that Sarfaraz Ahmed could have done the same, especially after leading Pakistan to victory in the Champions Trophy and keeping Pakistan No. 1 in T20 rankings for two consecutive years.
📌 On Pakistan’s Current Team Environment
Umar Akmal also criticized the current atmosphere in the national team, saying there’s a lot of blame-shifting and lack of accountability among players today.
"If Sarfaraz was still captain, the team would be playing united under him, and we wouldn't be worried about series against Afghanistan," he remarked.
