At Least 5 Dead After Dumper Truck Collides with Rickshaws, Motorcycles in Lahore

LAHORE: A tragic accident in Baghbanpura on Wednesday resulted in the death of at least five people when a dumper truck, whose brakes reportedly failed, collided with multiple rickshaws and motorcycles. The fast-moving truck, which was hired by the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), rammed into three rickshaws and two motorcycles near Aakhri Minute Stop in the Punjab capital.

According to rescue authorities, the crash occurred when the truck, which was transporting waste from Shadmaan to Baghbanpura for dumping, lost control and veered off its lane. The truck’s high speed caused it to crash into the vehicles, which were moving in the opposite direction. Tragically, the accident resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including two young girls, Aima and Hafza, a rickshaw driver, and a motorcycle rider. One of the victims remains unidentified.

In addition to the fatalities, four people sustained injuries in the collision. They have been transferred to Shalimaar Hospital for treatment. Rescue teams and police arrived promptly at the scene to assist the victims and clear the road.

The driver of the dumper truck, identified as Azeem, fled the scene immediately following the crash. Authorities have launched a manhunt to locate and apprehend him.

The deadly accident is part of a troubling trend of rising road incidents in Pakistan, particularly those involving dumper trucks and loaders. Just a day before this incident, it was reported that 110 people in Karachi had lost their lives in the past 132 days due to collisions involving heavy vehicles.

As the authorities continue their investigation, there is growing concern over the increasing number of road accidents involving heavy vehicles and the need for stricter regulations to ensure public safety.
