TEL AVIV / TEHRAN – In a bold military move that may reshape the geopolitical landscape, Israel has confirmed a wide-ranging offensive against Iran, striking nuclear facilities, ballistic missile sites, and military strongholds. The operation, named “Operation Rising Lion,” is aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear weapons capabilities before they materialize into a direct threat.

The Natanz uranium enrichment plant, Iran’s primary nuclear facility, was reportedly hit by multiple explosions. According to Iranian media, major infrastructure has been damaged, with civilian casualties, including children, reported in Tehran after residential areas were caught in the crossfire.

In a pre-recorded address, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared the operation a “decisive moment” in the nation’s history.

“Israel has launched a defensive campaign to eliminate an existential threat. This operation will last as long as needed,” he stated.

Iran Claims High-Profile Casualties

Iran’s state media announced the death of Hossein Salami, the chief commander of the elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC’s headquarters in Tehran was also reportedly damaged, though independent verification remains limited due to communication blackouts in several areas.

Reports suggest that Israel’s Mossad played a significant role through covert sabotage missions targeting strategic Iranian missile sites and air defence systems, complementing the aerial bombardment.

An Israeli military spokesperson confirmed that “dozens of nuclear and military assets” across Iran had been struck. He claimed Iran possessed enriched material capable of producing up to 15 nuclear bombs within days — a timeline Tel Aviv considered unacceptable.

Israel Braces for Iranian Retaliation

In anticipation of an Iranian response, Ben Gurion International Airport has been closed, and air defence systems are on high alert.

“We expect drone and missile retaliation imminently,” warned Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz, adding that civilian protection measures were underway.

The United States has denied involvement, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasizing that the action was unilateral.

“We are not involved in this operation. Iran must not target American personnel,” Rubio said.

US President Donald Trump has convened the National Security Council to assess the rapidly evolving situation.

Meanwhile, crude oil prices spiked, global stocks tumbled, and risk-averse investors shifted to safer assets, underscoring the economic ripple effects of the attack.

Diplomatic Talks in Jeopardy

Upcoming diplomatic talks scheduled in Oman between US and Iranian officials now hang in the balance. Both sides had been preparing for another round of nuclear discussions, but these may now collapse entirely due to the escalating conflict.

Tens of thousands of Israeli troops have been mobilized, with military chief Eyal Zamir stating:

“We are engaged in a historic and necessary campaign. Iran has long plotted our destruction. We cannot allow them the tools to make that real.”

Global Watch

The world now watches closely as tensions between two of the region’s most powerful adversaries reach an explosive tipping point. With international diplomatic channels fraying, fears of a wider Middle East conflict loom large.
