Gas Supply Suspended in Several Karachi Areas, Residents Face Difficulties

Karachi: Another wave of hardship has hit the residents of Karachi as Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) announced a temporary gas suspension in multiple areas of the city. The suspension is due to ongoing work on shifting the BRT project pipeline, which will begin tonight.

According to an official spokesperson, Safora Chowrangi and surrounding localities will experience gas outages from tonight until 7 AM. Gulistan-e-Johar Blocks 1, 2, 3, and 7 will also be affected during this time.

BRT Project and Gas Pipeline Relocation

The company explained that relocating the gas pipelines along the BRT route is necessary to ensure safer and better facilities for residents in the future. However, this temporary suspension will affect domestic users tonight.

Gas Crisis Worsens

The city is already facing an intensified gas shortage, with several areas reporting sudden disconnections and low pressure. Many households are forced to use wood-fired stoves and alternative fuels for cooking.

Expected Gas Price Hike

Meanwhile, both Sui Northern and Sui Southern Gas Companies have submitted requests for significant gas price hikes in the upcoming fiscal year.

• Sui Northern has proposed an increase of Rs. 735.59 per MMBTU,

• while Sui Southern has demanded a raise of Rs. 2443 per MMBTU, including previous shortfalls.

If approved, this increase will further burden citizens already dealing with inflation and ongoing energy crises.

Citizens Demand Action

Citizens have appealed to SSGC and government authorities to resolve the crisis swiftly and ensure a stable supply of gas to avoid disruptions in daily life.
