Meghan Markle Accused of Lacking Originality Amid New Rosé Wine Launch - Bio Points News
Royal expert criticizes Meghan Markle’s latest venture, claiming she is mimicking celebrity entrepreneurs and questioning the originality and substance behind her brand As Ever.
Meghan Markle Faces Criticism for 'Piggybacking' on Celebrity Wine Trend
Meghan Markle has come under fresh scrutiny following the launch of her latest product — a Rosé wine under her lifestyle brand As Ever. Critics, including royal commentators, argue that the Duchess of Sussex is leaning heavily on established celebrity business models rather than carving out a unique path of her own.
The new wine launch comes amid growing speculation that Meghan is following in the footsteps of other high-profile Hollywood figures who have found commercial success in the wine industry. Among the earliest were Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie with their acclaimed rosé label Miraval, followed by Kylie Minogue and rock star Jon Bon Jovi, both of whom have introduced their own lines of Rosé.
Royal author and commentator Hugo Vickers weighed in on the controversy, suggesting that Meghan’s approach lacks novelty and may not be sustainable in the long term. Speaking to Radar Online, Vickers remarked, "She clearly needs to keep rolling out new products to stay in the spotlight. If she just launched another jar of jam, people likely wouldn’t care."
He questioned what differentiates Meghan’s wine from others in an already saturated market. "I don’t know how hers will stand out. Maybe it will simply be more expensive," he added with a hint of skepticism.
'Jumping from Kitchens to Fashion' – A Brand Without Direction?
Vickers also referenced Meghan’s recent conversation with entrepreneur Emma Grede, in which she hinted at expanding As Ever beyond food products and into broader lifestyle and fashion spaces. "She warned us… she was going to do all sorts of different things," said Vickers. "From kitchens to drawing rooms to the world of fashion. This appears to be just the next move."
When asked directly whether Meghan’s brand strategy is based on replicating what’s worked for others, Vickers responded, "That’s probably right." He admitted that while the approach may not be original, it could still prove effective — as long as one of the ventures gains traction.
"It seems like a good enough strategy — keep launching ideas and hope something clicks," he noted. But he also warned of the potential pitfalls: "There’s a sense she’s heading in too many directions, partnering with different people, one project after another. It makes you question how much depth or long-term vision there really is."
Innovation or Imitation?
As Meghan Markle continues to grow her As Ever brand, reactions remain mixed. Some see her expanding lifestyle empire as a natural evolution of her post-royal career. Others argue that the duchess is chasing trends rather than setting them — and may eventually lose public interest if her products lack uniqueness and consistency.
For now, the Rosé release has sparked discussion — and not just for its taste, but for what it says about the direction of Meghan’s brand.
