Air India Dreamliner Returns to Hong Kong Mid-Flight After Suspected Technical Issue - Bio Points News
Air India flight AI315 returned to Hong Kong mid-air on Monday due to a suspected technical issue. This follows a fatal crash involving another Dreamliner last week.
New Delhi, June 13, 2025 — An Air India flight en route from Hong Kong to New Delhi was forced to return mid-flight on Monday after the pilot reported a suspected technical issue, a source close to the situation told Reuters.
The flight, AI315, was being operated using a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, the same aircraft model involved in a tragic crash in Ahmedabad just days ago, which claimed 241 lives out of 242 on board.
According to Flightradar24, the aircraft took off from Hong Kong at 12:16 PM local time and landed back at the airport slightly over an hour later as a precautionary safety measure.
Aircraft Now Undergoing Safety Checks
The aircraft involved in Monday's incident is currently undergoing technical inspections in Hong Kong. Air India and Boeing have not yet issued official statements regarding the cause of the suspected malfunction.
This latest event has raised serious safety concerns among travelers and aviation authorities, especially in light of the recent fatal crash in Ahmedabad, involving the same model of aircraft.
A Troubling Pattern for Air India?
The close timing of both incidents involving the Boeing 787 Dreamliner raises questions about the safety protocols, maintenance routines, and fleet conditions of Air India’s long-haul operations.
In the Ahmedabad crash, initial reports suggest engine failure shortly after takeoff might have caused the deadly accident, but investigations are ongoing.
With AI315 avoiding disaster through a timely decision to return, many see it as a wake-up call for stricter aircraft monitoring, particularly for long-haul international flights.
Passenger Safety Comes First
Despite the scare, no injuries or emergency landings were reported in the AI315 case, and passengers were safely returned to the terminal. Air India will likely reschedule the flight once safety inspections are completed and the aircraft is cleared for operations.
